Truck auctions
Truck auctions can save you money
Truck auctions can save you as much as car auctions and work in exactly the same way.
Some truck auctions are run by local police departments who need to get rid of trucks to free up valuable storage space in their yard. These trucks have either been repossessed or are owned by the police which they usually keep for around 2 years. These trucks are normally very well maintained by the police and you can pick up some real bargains.
If you can find a truck auction and if there is little competition for the truck you are bidding on, it is more than possible to buy it for up to 90% off its retail value.
The hardest thing is trying to find a local truck auction as they are not as common or regular as car auctions.
The best way to find a truck auction
Truck auctions are advertised in local papers, but because they are not very regular it is easy to miss the announcements.
A far easier way of finding a truck auction is by a quick search on the internet. There are many sites that can provide you with details of where and when your next truck auction will be held. You have to pay a small membership fee for some of these sites, but they will save you so much time and also money on your purchase that it is well worth paying the fee.
At the auction
Once you have found the date and location of a truck auction, check to see what time the auction opens and what time the first bidding starts.
Generally you will be able to get into the auction 2-3 hours before the bidding starts so that you can view the vehicles before you have to bid on them. (This is sometimes the day before, so make sure you read the details)
It is a good idea to take a friend who has knowledge about trucks so that you can check over the vehicles and make sure that you don’t end up with a lemon. If you don’t know a friend with this type of knowledge, you can always pay a mechanic to come with you. This is worth the cost as it could save you thousands in the long run if you end up with the wrong truck.
Register your details at the auction and you will be given a card with a number on it. Use this to make your bids and away you go!
